Beach and Vietnam go hand in hand. On a hot day in Hoi An there is nothing better than a swim. According to CNN Summer Travel, An Bang Beach in Hoi An is ranked as one of the top one hundred beaches in the world. Its white sand, warm rolling waves, views of Cham Island and choice of beach restaurants make it the perfect place to while away the hours.
An Bang Beach is situated just a few kilometers east of Hoi An Old Town. For about a dollar you can hire a bicycle from a number of shops in Old Town and take the picturesque cycle through the rice paddy fields, past the wading buffalos, and out to the coast.
An Bang Beach is a 30 kilometer white sand crescent that runs down to Da Nang and the famous China Beach. In the summer months (May through September) the water temperatures reach 28 degrees Celsius (83 degrees Fahrenheit). You’ll find no shortage of great food and drink options right on the sandy shore. In the rainy season beginning in late September the water cools and becomes a bit more moody. This is the time of year when the loungers are separated from the surfers. If you’re out for adventure and some great waves, An Bang is your place.
There is a great selection of Vietnamese and Western restaurants to choose from. The seafood is notoriously good (and cheap). If you’re more in the mood for a Western classic check out La Plage, Banyan and Soul Kitchen (try the tuna tartar with mango). For those of you who can’t decide whether to get Soul Kitchen’s mouth watering chicken salad, Luna’s cheesy pizza or Banyan’s famous homemade flavoured vodka, An Bang will work with you. Most restaurants there don’t mind serving you down on the beach or even at a competing restaurant. Laid back is the name of the game.
Remember to check out An Bang when you’re ready to soak up some sun, swim and surf.
