One of the first things you will notice in Da Nang is its unusual layout. Whereas most beach side cities seem to start on the beachfront and grow back, Da Nang’s hub is formed around the Han River banks, about 2km from the beach. On the East side of Da Nang there are still plenty of empty plots as you near the beach but among them are some great hotels that will give you million dollar views for a great price.
Although Da Nang is not a large city in area, it is still a reasonably long way to walk from the city to the beach when it’s 37 degrees Celsius outside. So if you choose to stay in the city be prepared to take a $4 cab ride to the beach or hire a bicycle. In the city there are some nice little hotels along the Han River banks where you can find a comfortable, air conditioned room for as little as $20. You’ll have one of the local markets just outside your door and be able to enjoy a cocktail at a relaxed restaurant right around the corner. The riverside hotels offer picturesque views of the three main bridges and are especially great at night but are a little noisier than hotels by the beach.
The southern end of the city is where the 5 star resorts begin. If you want to treat yourself then there is plenty of luxury to choose from. If you come to Da Nang in the off-season then you can usually get some great deals.
The rainy season starts around September and prices will be at their lowest. If possible, avoid the peak season in June and July when temperatures and prices are at their highest.
